This Is Not the Place is a self-published illustrated book that was first presented to the public at the Camberwell College of Arts Postgraduate Show 2025. It explores the tension between memory and the spaces we move through. Operating as an ‘Illustrated Research Publication’, the work weaves together drawing, fragmented narrative, and visual experimentation to form a meditation on how environments shape our sense of self.

The publication resists linear storytelling overall; instead unfolding through shifting visual structures: isolated images, abstract compositions, and sequential pages that echo the rhythm of thought rather than chronology. Thick decorative borders, recurring motifs, and symbolic imagery frame the work, offering both continuity and interruption. The presence of more traditional comic strips and two written pieces allow cohesion between the different aesthetic approaches.

Part diary, part visual essay, This Is Not the Place uses personal history and anecdotes to appeal to shared experiences. Empty rooms, the concept of thresholds, drawings from memory, and transitional sites recur throughout the book, functioning as metaphors for both physical and psychological movement. Rather than offering closure, the publication holds space for ambiguity, allowing readers to inhabit the same sense of ‘in-betweenness’ that the work reflects.
